Honda Reaches 30 Million Vehicles Produced in the US

It's been 40 years since Honda began producing automobiles in the United States. Now the automaker has made even more history by reaching a milestone of 30 million vehicles sold as of January 2023, and our dealership is celebrating! Join us in this celebration as we honor nearly 17,000 employees for their hard work and effort in helping reach this incredible achievement.

It Takes a Village to Make History

Honda has eight auto manufacturing facilities in the U.S., all of which have contributed to this 30 million milestone. But it all began at the Marysville Auto Plant in Ohio. With other auto manufacturing facilities in Alabama, Georgia, and Indiana, Honda's history-making achievement represents pure tenacity in striving to be America's first choice above its competitors. And the automaker has invested $16 billion in those facilities to do it.

According to Bob Schwyn, Senior Vice President of Honda Development and Manufacturing of America, reaching 30 million is because of the dedication of the company's employees, past and present. "This milestone, along with recently celebrating 40 years of manufacturing autos in the U.S., reflects the commitment of our associates to serve customers nationwide," said Bob Schwyn. Their commitment and resilience continue to stimulate the creativity to make high-quality automobiles.

Building on the Past Honda Looks to the Future

Did you know that Honda was the first Japanese automaker to produce vehicles in the United States? The production began at the Marysville facility on November 1, 1982. Honda vehicles now contribute to over two-thirds of those sold in the U.S., as last reported in 2022. And as Honda focuses on the electrified future, they've made significant financial investments to establish an "EV Hub" in Ohio.

Specifically, Honda invested $700 million to retool many automakers' current auto and powertrain facilities to produce EVs. And a joint venture with LG Energy Solution, totaling $3.5 billion, to build a battery facility in Ohio. Honda has earmarked the $700 million investment to transform Honda's Marysville Auto Plant, East Liberty Auto Plant, and Anna Engine Plant, specifically for EVs, which also includes the creation of more than 300 new jobs.

It's an exciting time for Honda, its employees, and customers nationwide. With Honda's goal to achieve carbon neutrality for all products by 2050, 30 million vehicles sold in the U.S. is an encouraging sign for even better things in the future.
