What's New For the 2019 Honda Accord?

Pickups and SUVs are nice, but not everyone wants to see a pile of merchandise in the cargo section sticking up above the rear window. This same spot can also serve as a sound box to amplify outside noises, and with excessively high clearance, quick, sharp turns can be a problem. The answer is a mid-size sedan, but not just any kind. The 2019 Honda Accord easily handles these problems and more. See for yourself how many problems the Accord might solve for you.

Trims and Features

The 2019 Accord offers the distinct LX, Hybrid, Sport, EX, EX-L, and Touring models along with hybrid versions of the EX, EX-L, and Touring, but all of them are founded on the same reliable body. Inside, it provides overhead clearance of 39.5 inches up front while yielding 37.2 inches in back. Legs can stretch out to 42.3 inches in the first row while rear passengers have 40.4 inches to move their feet around in. Only the addition of a moonroof in some versions alters front headroom to 37.3 inches. Matching the copious latitude of the cabin equipped with dual-zone climate control is 16.7 cubic feet in the trunk. Depending on the model, sound is supplied by either 160, 180, or 450 watts powering 4, 8, or 10 speakers. Controlling things is done through either a 7 or 8-inch touchscreen that can include Bluetooth, Apple CarPlay, and Android Auto connectivity. Also, heated leather seats with automated multi-positioning are included in some editions.

2019 Honda AccordMid-size sedans are expected to offer more power than their smaller cousins while consuming less fuel than their bigger luxury counterparts. The drivetrain choices in the 2019 Accord reach this goal right on target. For frugal gas usage, a 1.5-liter turbocharged inline-4 partners with a continuously variable transmission or CVT to produce 30 mpg city and 38 mpg highway. It also busts out 192 horsepower to get the job done. Drivers who prefer the feel of gears shifting have the option of a 6-speed manual transmission that reduces mileage a bit to 26 mpg city and 35 mpg highway. Faster acceleration is supplied by a 2-liter turbocharged inline-4 that knocks out 252 horsepower in concert with a 10-speed automatic transmission. Like the 1.5-liter block, this one also offers a 6-speed manual alternative that slightly lowers mileage from the typical 23 mpg city and 34 mpg highway to 22 mpg and 32 mpg respectively. It's no surprise that the 2019 Accord hybrid cuts gas use to 48 mpg city and highway, but it's a pleasant surprise that it does this while whipping up 212 horses at the same time.

2019 Honda AccordThe Accord received 5 stars from the NHTSA in all categories along with top Good ratings from the IIHS. Part of this achievement is owed to the unibody construction that goes into making the Accord. There are also things like traction and stability control, airbags, a rearview camera, and antilock brakes that do their part. Taking smarter measures to boost safety, Honda has added Honda Sensing to the Accord. This package lets the Accord spot danger ahead and alert the driver while applying the brakes if need be. It also informs the operator if the vehicle deviates from its present path and takes corrective action. Adding to this collection of proactive capabilities, Honda Sensing can now recognize and read traffic signs while informing the driver about their presence.
