Honda's adaptive cruise control (ACC) is one of its revolutionary safety technologies. Adaptive cruise control is offered as either a standard or available safety tool on many Honda vehicles. ACC is primarily used on the highway, but it can also assist with driving in stop-and-go traffic. Once you learn to use your Honda's ACC function, you can look forward to safer and more confident rides no matter where you go.

What Is Honda Adaptive Cruise Control?

Adaptive cruise control is an advanced safety aid. ACC ensures that your car maintains a certain speed and stays a safe following distance from the vehicle in front. ACC also comes with a second feature called "low-speed follow" that helps you drive safely in stop-and-go traffic.

How Does ACC Work?

When ACC is activated on the road, you can choose to remain a specific distance from the car ahead, depending on the current road conditions and your personal preferences. You have the option of selecting either a minimum, medium, or extended length from the car ahead of you. Depending on which following distance length you prefer, your vehicle will adjust the throttle or apply the brakes as needed to make sure your car stays the same distance from the vehicle in front. ACC allows for more relaxed driving on the road, and it also makes your drives safer. If the system senses that the car ahead of you comes to a stop, it will automatically apply the brakes to stop your vehicle. Keep in mind that if your Honda's ACC system stops your car, it will also disengage ACC. You will need to manually reactivate adaptive cruise control when you start driving again.

How To Activate Adaptive Cruise Control

Activating your car's cruise control function on the road is simple. First, you will need to reach the speed that you want your vehicle to maintain. Then, locate the ACC button, which is likely located on the steering wheel's left-hand side. The ACC button includes a "Speed" setting as well with a "+" and a "-" sign. You can use these buttons to reach a higher speed or lower your Honda's speed to match the vehicle's traveling speed ahead. You can set your preferred following distance based on the car ahead of you, along with setting speed. If you need to reset the ACC function after stopping your vehicle, push the "RES+/-" button or step lightly on the accelerator.
