Honda is presenting the 127th Rose Parade coming up this January and they’ll be leading the march with an ambitious float called Nature’s Hope, which celebrates the majestic beauty of national parks. Keep an eye out for the float as it travels down the streets of Pasadena, California, when the Rose Parade is televised on the morning of Jan. 1, 2016!
Along with portrayals of the wildlife one might see at a national park in the U.S., the Nature’s Hope float also represents Japan’s national parks and symbolizes the harmony between the Land of the Rising Sun and the Home of the Brave. On the U.S. side of the float there’s a cougar, grizzly bear and other animals known to inhabit North American national parks. In addition, the float includes a real 14-foot waterfall that was inspired by Yosemite falls.
The side of the float representing Japan was inspired by Sanriku Fukko National Park, which was created in the aftermath of the Great East Japan Earthquake and Tsunami. This portion of the work includes a Japanese New Year bamboo arrangement, snow monkeys surrounded by cherry blossoms and the iconic Miracle Pine Tree, which is the only tree among hundreds that survived the tsunami.
Alongside the float, a musical number will be performed by 250 American high school students, GRAMMY award-winning musician Daniel Ho, and 20 high school students from Japan’s Iwate prefecture who were affected by the earthquake and tsunami.
