Every year, MotorWeek, USA Today and Cars.com select the best-selling compact SUVs in the nation and pit them against each other in several consumer and expert tests. In this year’s competition, the 2015 Honda CR-V outperformed its rivals and gained the coveted title of Compact SUV Challenge winner, impressing both critics and consumers with its great combination of fun-to-drive performance, family-oriented amenities and generous cabin space.

The compact SUV class is extremely competitive, but CR-V continues to prove that it’s your top choice. It’s the most popular pick in its class among American consumers and this recent honor further proves why it’s a success.

Competitors in this year’s Compact SUV Challenge included the Honda CR-V, Subaru Forester, Nissan Rogue, Toyota RAV4, Mazda CX-5, GMC Terrain, Chevrolet Equinox and Ford Escape. To be considered for the competition, all had to be under $28,000 and capable of delivering at least 26 mpg combined. Based on just this criteria alone, the 2015 CR-V was an easy shoo-in, starting at only $23,445 MSRP* and achieving an EPA-estimated 29 mpg combined (27 city/34 highway)** with a 2.4-liter four-cylinder and CVT.

A separate publication, Edmunds.com, calls its fuel economy estimates “a superb showing for this segment.” On top of efficiency, judges from MotorWeek, USA Today and Cars.com praised the Honda CR-V for its attractive styling, family-friendly technology and “rewarding” performance.

“The 2015 Honda CR-V came out on top because it provided the best blend of good interior room, excellent visibility and a surprisingly rewarding driving experience. The CR-V was also packed with great family-friendly features like easy-to-fold seats, a low load floor, rear air vents and much more,” said Patrick Olsen, Cars.com editor-in-chief.

CR-V is also MotorTrend’s 2015 SUV of the Year and it won for many of the same reasons. To learn more about the SUV, read our CR-V review here and make sure to come in soon and take it for a test drive if you’ve been considering a compact SUV!
