Honda plans to ramp up its electromobility options in just a few short years. Along with currently available models like the Accord Hybrid and Accord Plug-in Hybrid, the automaker is going to expand its selection of alternative-fuel vehicles. By the year 2018, Honda's manager of environmental business development, Ryan Harty, says the company will offer an all-new electric car (EV) and plug-in hybrid (PHEV).
There's scant information about these future models, but Harty said the further development of EVs and PHEVs will help Honda meet the CAFE (Corporate Average Fuel Economy) requirement of increasing fuel economy ratings to 54.5 mpg by 2025, along with meeting customer expectations when it comes to efficiency improvements.
He even said, "We want to bring these vehicles to market in significant volume," so car shoppers can expect rapid EV and PHEV production from Honda in coming years.
The automaker also says it plans to further utilize two- and three-motor hybrid systems, and before the end of the year will introduce new four-cylinder VTEC turbo engines to its powertrain lineup! The new engines will leverage Honda's Earth Dreams Technology to provide great performance, while still providing high-level fuel efficiency.
